Professionalism
A human resource specialist needs to be professional and effective while communicating with others. It has been our company goal for the past month to act as professional as possible in and out of the work space, and I believe I have behaved in a way that represents the professional level I hope to achieve one day. The day to day tasks I am faced with make me work with the other HR specialists to get the job done. In order to keep hitting deadlines, I must be able to effectively communicate and collaborate with my coworkers. For example, an important component in any business is the employee handbook, and together with my associate in HR, we completed the work. We brainstormed who was going to do what, and then we took the time to research what goes into the handbook. Collaboratively, we did bit by bit helping each other out, and eventually came up with the final product that is present above. We are responsible for organizing events within the office, from employee recognition ceremonies to team building activities, and while being promoted with these tasks, I have gained leadership and organizational skills that have developed me as a person. As I believe I act in a professional manner, I would not give myself a ten out of ten because I am not at the level of full focus on business. I am focused and do my work when assigned, but I still have a lot to learn in the overall aspects of how to operate within an office space. Moving forward, I will aim to focus on how top level workers stay professional in the office, and I will take every opportunity I can to learn how to be a better leader.
Core Technology
A human resource specialist’s job is not just dealing with personal relations face to face, it incorporates a need for the use of technology to keep the company moving forward. All of the documents in the office pertaining to relations comes from us. From letters of reprimand to appreciation to proposals, it is my duty to provide a template for each. In doing this, I utilize Google Docs and Google Drive to help collaborate and get the tasks done. I have grown my knowledge and efficiency within the Google shared documents to a point where I have no problems whenever I need to write something up. The document linked below shows the steps in which we take for conflicts in the office. We need to have a set action plan for when conflict arises, so that we are following a set of steps that keep us in order. I would not have been able to collaborate and complete this important document without my core technology skills. It is important that I am efficacious with the Google shared documents because without it, I wouldn’t have been able to complete these proposals, letters, or even the employee handbook, which are all important in our company’s success. Another facet of human resource is keeping track of attendance, and we do this by using Google Sheets. I have improved my knowledge and understanding of this technological device, which is important for my job. Overall, I have improved my skills within Google that has helped me help the company with specific tasks. In the future I look forward to furthering my Google Sheets skill as to where I will be proficient for any task requiring it.

Functional
While my role within HR is mainly written and communication based, I understand that in a corporation I need to understand numbers and the whole business dynamic. This December, we had the Neuqua VEI annual doughnut drive, and I was apart of the team that was in charge of counting and recording the money. Everyday we would divide the money up, count it, record it, and make sure everything was all good. This was a hands on experience that demonstrated my quantitative abilities around the office. In any business, it is important to have a retirement plan for the employees, so they can get benefits from working there. I started constructing a 401k plan for all of our employees so that we could start putting away a portion of our earnings towards our later life. An important part of HR is using skills to be able to research and analyze whatever is at hand. I used my skills, along with others to recognize two of our employees for the employees of the month for December. In all aspects of functionality, I believe I am competent in all aspects. I believe I have an apt understanding of business dynamics, and with my background in numbers, I believe quantitatively and financially I am sound. Research and analytical wise I believe I need more work as I don’t feel I am exceeding in that category. But overall I feel like I do well functionally. In the future, I will continue to take up opportunities to better my analytic and researching skills, while also trying to learn more about the whole of business dynamics.

Leadership
My normal role in HR in spectrum normally requires that I take my orders and complete the tasks at hand. Seldom I do actually get a chance to showcase my leadership skills, but there was one instance in particular that I got a chance to lead. Near the end of the semester there was the annual Krispy Kreme doughnut drive to raise funds for VEI. In charge of this event, dealing with money and recording the evidence was me and two other admin mates. A usual day in this task involved receiving large sums of money and a folder, and it was my job to record the the transaction on the folder and also record it in the computer. My leadership job came when people dropped off their folders and money. I would assign my two other mates to equal amounts to myself and we would get to work. While this doesn’t seem like a big deal, this was one of my only opportunity to take leadership and divvy up tasks. While I didn’t get many opportunities, I believe I did fine with the one I was given. I probably could have taken more initiative with certain portal tasks and could have gotten more involved to work on my leadership skills. Going forward, I look forward to working harder on taking control of my tasks given and to take more leadership whenever I can.
Functional
My job requires doing stuff primarily at my section of the office in HR. The daily usual gets old, so it was a good experience for me to go to the Great Lakes Trade Show earlier this semester. This opportunity gave me the chance to go out of my comfort zone and expand on other skills that are required in the business world. The tasks in the trade show included setting up the booth, buying and selling products, and networking to help out our business. I applied industry specific communication skills to be able to sell products. On the day, I ended up selling to upwards of seven different clients in the short time window we had at the end of the trade show, due to iPad complications that in hindsight were preventable. I reached out to various people and interested them in our packages, and made numerous sales. This was a big accomplishment for me because before this I had never had any sales experience. It was a good learning moment and I look for more in the future. I believe I did a fine job with this, because I was confident and efficient with the sales. While this isn't one of my usual HR tasks, I believe this piece was an important task for myself and the company. Moving forward I wish to engage in more opportunities to improve my salesmanship skills.
